Dalat, the flower city/Little Paris

On our way to Dalat. Some Kodak moments along the way - the "Golden Gate Bridge" over one of the local villages; the numerous waterfalls; and the public cemetery (where, unlike the one in Hanoi, where they re-bury the body after 3-5 years).

 Life below the bridge.

Our first stop in Dalat was the crazy, crowded central market - everything from soup to nuts - great photos! I really enjoyed seeing the creative ways people were toting their goods back & forth.

Right after the market, we took the cable car down from the mountain - a little worrisome for me, but OK if I didn't focus on the view down below.

The cable car exit was conveniently located at the foot of the steps to the Pagoda. What a phenomenally beautiful, peaceful and spiritual place. Absolutely gorgeous woodwork and picturesque gardens!

The day concluded with our home visit to Mrs. Tram's family of 5. She is a high school math teacher and her husband is an architect. Their 3 girls are 14, 10 and 3. We were led on a home tour, which was quite enlightening. Most homes are 3 stories tall and very tightly squeezed into small amounts of land. Her husband designed their home and it is beautiful. She even had a classroom in one of the rooms that was large enough for 24 children! (She teaches at the secondary school 1/2 day in the morning, and then teaches privately in her home in the afternoon). After dinner, 2 of the girls played a song on the keyboard and the youngest one sang 2 songs - they were so cute. Before I left, Mrs. Tram and I exchanged emails so we could discuss educational issues and keep in touch via Facebook.
